The
diving in Lanzarote is interesting trough the islands
special volcanic character and the abundant fish life.
There is a beautiful seabottom with lavarock and sand.
On many places the bottom slopes down to a lava reef.
The reef is in fact a lava wall with crevices and ledges around which
we find a rich fishlife.
There are about 550 different kinds of fish and over 1000 invertebrates
in the Canary Islands.
The
most popular divesites of Lanzarote are located in
Puerto del Carmen near the old town.
The site at "Playa de la Barrilla" starts in a bay protected
by lava rocks.
Here every level of diver can find enjoy his/her passion.
Even at very shallow depth you will be surrounded by lots of fish.
At
a depth of about 20 meters there is a lava reef.
Here we meet bigger species like groupers, stingrays and angelsharks.
In the North of the island there are other beautiful sites with underwater
tunnels.
The water temperature lays between 17ºC in winter and 23ºC
in summer.
The visibility varies, but has an average of about 20 m.
Diving in Lanzarote is great and there are lots of good dive centers
to guide you safely around its underwater treasures.
